International Credit Union Day

October 25, 2021

Building financial health for a brighter tomorrow

Celebrate 73 years of International Credit Union Day® at JANNOU CREDIT UNION

On Oct. 21, 2021, credit union members around the world will celebrate International Credit Union Day®, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements. This year marks the 73rd anniversary. In honor of this special day Jannou Credit Union invites its members and the entire community to celebrate this event virtually with us via our Facebook page. Members will get the opportunity to win prizes and in addition learn about our products and services. Students from our Twinned school will be visited virtually by Pocket the Mascot to discuss financial tips on saving for the future.

Jannou is the Kwéyòl expression for “Our dear and trusted friend” and pays tribute to the authentic and indigenous Saint Lucian origins of the Credit Union. We are currently eighteen thousand, four hundred and forty-one (18,441) members strong, located in the Corner of Jeremie Street and Chausee Road and in the Chitolie Mall in Beanfield, Vieux-Fort.

Since the 1960s Jannou has been committed to empowering members to gain financial prowess geared towards improving their quality of life despite their social status. We have proudly done so by building a not-for-profit organization(community) which is owned and operated by its members. This means better rates, lower fees, and distribution of surplus  to  our members through dividends.

In our vision we promised to be the responsive and premier financial institution which enhances your life. In the face of Covid we were determined to hold true to this promise. Jannou provided members with improved ways to access their account, with the introduction of CU Home Online Services and the Jannou Visa Debit Card.

Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. Each year, the international event affords the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union and financial cooperative difference.

This year’s theme is “Building financial health for a brighter tomorrow.”

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge the financial well-being of credit union members around the globe. This theme highlights the way credit unions are responding to that challenge by working with members to help them rebuild their livelihoods.

International Credit Union Day is recognized by the World Council of Credit Unions, the global trade association and development platform for credit unions and other financial cooperatives, as well as numerous national credit union trade associations and federations around the world.

On Oct. 21, credit unions from around the world will join forces to celebrate the day with membership drives, contests, and fundraisers to help their local communities. Credit unions will share their activities with the global community on social media using #ICUDay.
